I started practicing yoga in my late teens, immediately after a period of massive (less than healthy) weight loss, and just before I (finally) came out of the closet. As I struggled to adapt to a new physical and emotional reality, yoga provided a pathway to organize the chaos. Over the past eighteen years of study, the practice has continued to be my saving grace.
I completed my initial 200-hour training with Boston's Radiant Yoga School (Chanel Luck and Bonnie Argo) in February 2011. Back in New York City, I got whipped into proper shape by Schuyler Grant and all of the rad teachers at Kula Yoga Project and was also lucky to meet Senior Iyengar Teacher Nikki Costello; Nikki has been my primary teacher for five years and I completed her 300-hour teacher training in 2019. I teach in the hopes that my offering affords my students the same benefits and opportunities for growth that I've received from my teachers.
My vinyasa classes follow the map of Kula Flow: vinyasa flow with an emphasis on creative sequencing, skillful use of language and thoughtful alignment. Years of studying of human anatomy and my extreme attention to detail inform the whole class, even when we are moving with the breath. I draw further inspiration from my time spent as a Forrest Yoga junkie and mix in a bit of other functional movement modalities when the mood strikes. My greatest loves are restorative and yin yoga, as they give us the space to just be and to learn to be still.
